Alabama Democrat introduces bill forcing men to get vasectomy at age 50 or after 3 kids

What happened to "my body, my choice" with this Democrat? It was Alabama state Representative Rolanda Hollis, a Democrat, who introduced a bill that would force men to get a vasectomy at age 50 or after having three children - whichever came first.

If passed, the procedure would be mandatory and the man would be required to pay for it on his own, despite whether he wants the operation or not.

Hollis has commented that this proposal is in response to an abortion bill that passed legislature and is said to be very close to a "near-total ban on abortion" according to

“The vasectomy bill is to help with he reproductive system, and yes, it is to neutralize the abortion ban bill always takes two to tango," she said. “We can’t put all the responsibility on women. Men need to be responsible also.”

Hollis explained that she is “both” pro-life and pro-choice.

“I do not believe that women should use abortion as a birth control, but I do believe that if a women is raped or if it’s incest or anything like that then she has the choice to do what she wants to do.”

However, the abortion bill that was previously mentioned was already blocked by a federal judge as courts handle the challenges that came up in response to it. The bill in question, for abortion, would only allow legal abortion if the mother was in danger.

“Under existing law, there are no restrictions on the reproductive rights of men,” reads the legislation’s synopsis. “This bill would require a man to undergo a vasectomy within one month of his 50th birthday or the birth of his third biological child, whichever 13 comes first.”

At this time, men in Alabama are safe and not required to undergo a mandatory vasectomy. The bill needs to be passed before it's legitimate and taken seriously.
