Two masked and armed robbers walked into Monaghan's Pub and forced a worker to give them cash at gunpoint. The shocked employee knew something that the armed criminals did not know - that there was a retirement party for a cop and a room filled with police on the other side of the wall. As soon as the suspects fled with their ill gotten gains, the worker went over to the room full of cops and told them they had just been robbed. A group of cops quickly darted out of the pub and apprehended the two criminals outside the establishment.
Joseph McInnis III, 21, and Tyree McCoy, 22, were apprehended and are being held without bond at the Baltimore County Detention Center. The suspects have been charged with armed robbery, theft, possession of a handgun and other offenses related to the crime.
Investigators did not reveal how much money was stolen, but noted that none of the employees or customers were injured.
It's definitely rare for police officers to arrive on the scene, before the scene has actually became a crime scene.
One Baltimore County police Officer Jennifer Peach said of the haphazard alleged criminals and their finely tuned planning skills, "I'm sure that they weren't planning on there being a large room filled with police officers."
A spokesman for the Baltimore County police department, Corporal Shawn Vinson could not help but express his surprise that this establishment was targeted by the alleged robbers. The restaurant-pub is literally located across the street of a police precinct and is known as a popular hangout for off-duty cops.
Vinson says that the party was for Sgt. David Neral who has been with the department since 1988.
Owner Jack Milani stated in no uncertain terms, "It’s kind of odd you would even attempt it,” Milani said. “[Officers] are always in here. There was a decent amount of them."
As Maryland is one of a handful of states that voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election to the tune of over 60%, the liberal minded folks have put the arresting officers at the center of a use of force investigation. In the liberals' defense, the guys look pretty beat up.
But what can one expect when you try to rob from a place with a room full of cops?
The incident report filed by police noted that one of the off-duty policemen punched McCoy with a closed fist as the other officers were having problems detaining the man after his arms could not be controlled.
