Biden caught in fact check, falsely said Trump rejected WHO coronavirus test kits

Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, was hit with a "mostly false" rating after being fact checked on a statement he made during the most recent debate with Bernie Sanders.

Biden stated, according to Politifact, that "the World Health Organization offered the testing kits that they have available and to give it to us now. We refused them. We did not want to buy them.”

Politifact did some research and discovered that the test kits were not actually offered. Therefore Trump's campaign could not say no to something they weren't offered in the first place.

Biden's campaign tried to say it was correct by showing Politifact a story from Politico. That story said WHO sent some coronavirus tests to 60 countries near the end of February. However, the United States was not a country who received tests. But, Politico's article, according to Politifact, might make some readers think the United States was on the list of countries to receive the tests - but there's more to the story.

WHO was actually focusing on countries who couldn't put together a robust research and testing laboratory like the United States is capable of. As stated, "the countries WHO helped are ones that lack the virology lab horsepower that exists across the United States. The outreach work by the Pan American Health Organization is a case in point."

The coronavirus training and tests were received by 29 nations and "the list included Paraguay, Bolivia, Argentina, Chile, Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, and many others.

The group said it focused most of its efforts on "countries with the weakest health systems."

This is why America didn't receive the tests from WHO, not because Trump or his administration had said no. In fact, it doesn't make any sense why Trump would say no to America receiving coronavirus tests. What logical sense would that make?

Here's the hammer hitting the nail.

Margaret Harris is a WHO spokeswoman. She is quoted by Politifact as saying, "no discussions occurred between WHO and CDC about WHO providing COVID-19 tests to the United States... This is consistent with experience since the United States does not ordinarily rely on WHO for reagents or diagnostic tests because of sufficient domestic capacity."

Case in point, Joe Biden falsely accused Trump and his administration of rejecting coronavirus tests from WHO.
