Obama's wonderful crew of leftist know-nothings and feelings police want colleges to stop asking for criminal background checks because they think it promotes discrimination against minorities. I suppose they forgot that non-minorities can commit crimes too. That discriminates against white people because they assume most white people do not commit crimes.? That's not true. White people are fully capable of crimes too. Don't think they're not! What about Asians and Russians? No criminal background checks for them? Are they considered a minority in America? This has all become confusingly stupid, right? Agreed.
Feds order colleges to stop criminal background checks because it discriminates against minorities
I believe college should know the background of people moving into their campus. Every student should know if their roommate has a police record. They should know this for several reasons. The first is so roommates are aware of each others situation. If I knew my roommate had a police record, then perhaps I wouldn't bug them to sneak alcohol into the dorm. I might be a little more considerate knowing their situation. The second reason is to know if they have violent tendencies. Of course, this is something that two roommates may easily discuss before freshman year begins. It really hasn't been a problem yet, so it probably won't be. Oh wait a second, that's because colleges may have declined violent offenders, thieves, etc.
The Obama administration has ordered the nation?s colleges and universities to stop asking applicants about criminal and school disciplinary history because it discriminates against minorities. Institutions are also being asked to offer those with criminal records special support services such as counseling, mentoring and legal aid once enrolled. The government?s official term for these perspective students is ?justice-involved individuals? and the new directive aims to remove barriers to higher education for the overwhelmingly minority population that?s had encounters with the law or disciplinary issues through high school.
If I'm paying $10,000+ per semester/year to attend a college, that college should have the full freedom to accept/deny anyone for any reason. It's their business. They don't have to accept anyone whom they believe is not a good match for the clientele of the campus. If I reviewed college applications and saw criminal background checks that were disturbing, then I wouldn't accept them. I know people can turn over a new leaf and people do dumb things when they're young (and old), but there's certain things I wouldn't want roaming campus. I don't care if colleges refuse? people with criminal backgrounds. What do I care? I want the college to pick the best students to flood their campus with. Petty crimes can be examined on individual basis. Suspendion for riding a horse in high school during a senior prank would be fine. Even underage drinking after a Friday night football game would be acceptable. Anything on the criminal background check that involves violence, multiple criminal occurrences, robbery/stealing, or sexually deviant crimes should go through another level of application procedures. What's wrong with that? Oh, it discriminates against minorities. That's not true. It discriminates against criminals, and criminals come in all colors, shapes, sizes. Criminals can even be transgendered and get lost in the wrong bathroom Obama should worry letting men in the women's room and stop micromanaging. Every time he puts his little nose in things, those things dismantle themselves. Stick to your own campaign and let places manage themselves.
