Philadelphia Democrat lawmaker, Cindy Bass, is trying to ban bulletproof glass in businesses and it's one of the most stupid things we've ever heard of. Most businesses that use bulletproof glass are located in neighborhoods that have a higher rate of crime, so the bulletproof glass helps employees remain safe if there's ever a shootout or burglary. For any lawmaker to attempt to ban bulletproof glass shows a clear and obvious lack of respect or care for humans working in rough areas.
The bill she's working on is called the 'Stop and Go' bill and it states that "no establishment shall erect or maintain a physical barrier" and it seems as though that includes any form of glass that protects customers and employees. Many stores in neighborhoods with a higher amount of violent crime or history of robberies place the bulletproof glass at the counter. The glass separates the customer from the employee. The customer can still see and talk to the employee and they exchange money through a slot at the bottom. This is the normal practice and shoppers do not complain about it because they know it's there for safety.
Councilwoman Cindy Bass wants the glass to be taken down and for future stores not to be allowed to install the glass as well. She basically wants store employees to have almost zero safety to protect them from criminals.
Blue Lives Matter reports: Rich Kim, the owner of Broad Deli, told WTXF. His family has run the deli, which sells soda, snacks, meals, and beer by the can, for 20 years.
Kim said that he had the bulletproof glass installed after a shooting, and that it saved his mother-in-law from a knife attack.
"If the glass comes down, the crime rate will rise and there will be lots of dead bodies," he said.
It's stated that Councilwoman Bass is worried about the "feelings" of customers and doesn't want them shopping through a window. She should go work at a store in a bad neighborhood and see what it's like to be robbed and shot at. Then she can worry about other people's feelings. Specifically, the feelings of people who don't ever complain about shopping through a window because they all know it's for safety.
Bass clearly has another agenda because this is not about the fake "feelings" of any customers. It's stated that Bass claims the small stores which use bulletproof glass, in rough patches of neighborhoods, mostly sell alcohol and cause trouble in the neighborhoods. She insists that the stores sell very little food and it seems like she's blaming crime on alcohol sales. I guess she forgets that people can buy alcohol anywhere and Philadelphia has a huge opioid addiction problem that's probably a bigger issue than some people buying six-packs or 40's.
"Right now, the Plexiglas has to come down,” she said.
She's rumored to be targeting Korean Americans but claims that is false and offensive.
People deserve to be safe at work and removing the bulletproof glass will put people at risk. Why would Cindy Bass do this when she knows it will cause people to get hurt?
