Gavin Newsom and strict restrictions could affect Thanksgiving for some

California's own emperor Gavin Newsom, clearly a Democrat, has released some strict rules and restrictions about family gatherings and it's likely to affect some households for Thanksgiving next month.

Newsom and the California Department of Public Health put out some new guidelines for private gatherings and not everyone is happy about it. Will it save lives, possibly, but it's unclear how anyone will measure that, and it's also unclear how anyone will know someone is violating it as well.

One of the big rules is that a gathering cannot have more than three households which includes all guests and the host. It has to be outside, and it can't be more than two hours. So forget about watching an entire football game with your family. Part of the reason it wants to limit the number of households is because many households could increase the number of people traveling from and thus increase the number of people each person is technically exposed to. So if you're just doing something with your local family members, that should be fine, but perhaps it wants to lessen the amount of people traveling from another part of town. So what's the solution? I don't know, maybe have two celebrations on different weekends for fun and draw horrible pictures of Gavin Newsom in between bites.

Some of the new restrictions and rules say the following:

"Gatherings are defined as social situations that bring together people from different households at the same time in a single space or place. When people from different households mix, this increases the risk of transmission of COVID-19"

"The longer the duration [of the gathering], the risk of transmission increases."

"Gatherings that occur outdoors are significantly safer than indoor gatherings. All gatherings must be held outside. Attendees may go inside to use restrooms as long as the restrooms are frequently sanitized."

Masks have to stay on after eating and drinking.

Singing and shouting is discouraged.

Social distance.

Wash your hands.

Fine. Many of these make sense and people are doing them already. We just have to laugh that this comes from Emperor Newsom as he's being criticized for everything these days. Rest assured, most people already follow most of these guidelines anyway. Hopefully people are naturally washing their hands for the sake of good hygiene anyway. Many of us prefer to be outside rather than inside.

But what if it rains in California on Thanksgiving? Are they going to do a rain-date since CA doesn't really want any gatherings inside?

Is it OK to say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas?
