Democrat Rep. Ilhan Omar issued a brief response in regards to President Donald Trump after news broke of the military wiping eliminating known enemy, Gen. Qassem Soleimani, who was the head of Iran’s elite Quds Force.
Omar stated "So what if Trump wants war, knows this leads to war and needs the distraction? Real question is, will those with congressional authority step in and stop him? I know I will."
Omar's message was in response to fellow Democratic Senator, Chris Murphy. He said, "Soleimani was an enemy of the United States. That’s not a question. The question is this - as reports suggest, did America just assassinate, without any congressional authorization, the second most powerful person in Iran, knowingly setting off a potential massive regional war?"
A report on AP stated:
The Defense Department said it killed Soleimani because he “was actively developing plans to attack American diplomats and service members in Iraq and throughout the region.” It also accused Soleimani of approving the attacks on the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad earlier this week.
Usually, that's a good reason to take out an enemy. This was Trump's way to protect those at the United States embassy.
Omar and Murphy were met with heavy criticism to their messages.
