Man armed with 'rifle and incendiary devices' attacks ICE center, gets shot dead
Willem Van Spronsen, 69, attacked an immgration detention center and was shot dead in the process. He "was armed with a rifle and incendiary devices when he attacked the Northwest Detention Center before dawn on Saturday. The Pierce County Medical Examiner’s office said he died of multiple gunshot wounds," per a report on Reuters.
His previous records show he was also arrested for assaulting a police officer during a protest outside of the same location. Spronsen is also, according to numerous social media threads and sources, an activist member of Antifa.
So what happened?
Van Spronsen apparently set a vehicle on fire in the parking lot. Then he was trying to light a propane tank on fire and four police officers showed up. They shot him.
If Van Spronsen was successful in lighting the propane tank on fire, that could've been a huge explosion and resulted in some serious injuries.
Seems like only Van Spronsen was taken out though. No one else, including the police officers who responded to the call, were injured.
To add more to the story, this attack on the facility happened just a few hours after people had a peaceful protest right outside the place.
Reuters report also stated that "a senior ICE official told the Washington Post that the attack in Tacoma could have resulted in the mass murder of staff and detainees housed at the facility.
“These are the kinds of incidents that keep you up at night,” Shawn Fallah, who heads the ICE Office of Professional Responsibility, said in a statement."
Heavy added even more to this story, by digging into the attacker's background a bit. Based on their report, Van Spronsen was apparently an anarchist and anti-fascist. He was a musician with ties to the Puget Sound Anarchists and some local antifa groups.
Van Spronsen also had a different name. He "went by the name Emma Durutti on a now-deleted Facebook profile and on an album titled “the audio manifesto” that was posted to Bandcamp a week before he was killed. While some have said the Emma Durutti name indicated Van Spronsen was trans — and Emma Durutti did post on Facebook in 2018 calling Willem Van Spronsen a dead name — friends of Van Spronsen say he did not identify as trans and used Emma Durutti as a pen name. The nom de plume is a reference to two of Van Spronsen’s inspirations: Emma Goldman, an anarchist activist, and Spanish insurrectionary Buenaventura Durruti."
Soooo.... there ya go. Have fun in the comments.
