Man Wins Lottery During Divorce, Judge Makes Him Split It With Wife

An unfortunate turn of events for a man who won the lottery in the suburban area of Detroit now has to share the winnings with his ex-wife. The judge stated that the man has to give half of the $30 million lottery winnings to his wife as the divorce still hasn't been finalized at the time when he brought the winning ticket home.

It didn't matter that Rich Zelasko and his then-wife Mary Beth Zelasko haven't been living together for two years at that point. They have been separated for years at the time when he won the lottery, but the judge still demanded that the man paid half of his winnings to his wife.

The wife had to have been thrilled to hear the news, though the same can't be said for the lucky lottery winner. Winning the lottery has to be one of the best feelings in the world, but Rich obviously won't be happy about this court ruling. The judge still stands his ground and says that a marriage isn't over until it's formally over. And at the end of the day, the word of the judge is the only thing that matters.

The divorce was finally over with in 2018, but Rich still had to pay the $15 million dollars to his ex-wife. The arbitrator awarded her with such a massive sum and she will be more than happy to take it. Still, Mr. Zelasko can't be too sad about the situation. He is still $15,000,000 richer and who knows what he will do with all that money.

It isn't known just how much the court proceedings stung him in the wrong place, but it's safe to say that it just cannot be a pleasant feeling when you have to give millions to your soon-to-be ex-wife.
