No jail time for teen who raped 1-year-old girl on camera
Kraigen Grooms, 19 and of Ottumwa, Iowa, will not serve any jail time after he pleaded guilty to one count of engaging in a lascivious act with a child. According to Heavy, Kraigen will "serve only a 10-year suspended prison sentence after pleading guilty to one count of engaging in a lascivious act with a child. Grooms admitted to abusing a 12 to 18-month baby girl in April 2013, when he was 16, while at least one other man watched and recorded the crime."
Apparently raping a 1-year-old on camera isn't worthy of jail time, but just about everyone with a working brain will disagree.
CBS 12 reported that "Wapello County Attorney Gary Oldenburger defended the plea deal in a statement Thursday in an effort, he said, to correct “grossly inaccurate” information being spread about the case, according to court records."
They stated that one of the reasons that Groom's sentence resulted in no jail time (a horrible mistake), was that the victim's parents did not want him to be sent to prison. They wanted him to "receive treatment" which likely meant for his mental state. Instead of jail, he was gifted a 10-year suspended sentence and also five years of supervised release. Grooms is required to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
He was 17 when he was arrested for raping the one-year-old girl and police notified local news outlet KTVO that there was evidence on video.
Many people in the general public are absolutely disgusted by the sentencing.
