Democrat Governor Ralph Northam has confirmed that they're 'working on' gun control that could possibly involve confiscation in Virginia. This plan reportedly focuses on taking "assault weapons" from citizens, even those who are law-abiding owners.
Breck Dumas reports that Gov. Northam would like to revive at least eight "common sense" gun control issues that were previously turned down by Republicans. Now that Democrats basically run Virginia, Northam might actually be successful in doing so. Democrats own the House and Senate in Virginia thanks to the most recent local elections.
These measures include, but may not be limited to:
prioritizing "universal background checks, banning the sale of assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, restoring the law that limits purchases to one gun a month, and a red flag law that would empower a court to temporarily remove a gun from a person deemed to be a risk to himself or others."
Dumas continues with a quote from Northam himself, who was asked about confiscating legally owned weapons from legal owners, or in terms used by the Washington Post:
"assault weapons from gun owners" Northam replied, "That's something I'm working [on] with our secretary of public safety. I'll work with the gun violence activists, and we'll work [on] that. I don't have a definitely plan today."
Many Americans have problems with red flag laws because they run the risk of being purposely abused or used incorrectly. Once someone deems another person to be considered a threat, the red flag law might be in action. However, what if someone reports another person as a threat incorrectly, perhaps out of spite? Things like this happen, often as a result of two people having an issue with each other.
We've seen people "swatting" each other in acts of personal revenge, so putting anything off as though "it won't happen" would be irresponsible.
Virginia residents who are not Democrats have been speaking out against this ever since they learned Northam's intent with gun control.
Northam's "black face" scandal is still riding against him.
