Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is taking a week off from her new job as Congresswoman, even though her job doesn't start until January 3, 2019. The 29-year-old who made history by being the youngest female ever elected to Congress simply cannot believe she's already missing yoga classes and waking up with her makeup on. She literally cannot even. To break in her new job, she's taking a week off for self-care.
I say good for her! Everyone should take a week off before they begin their new career in a six figure job working for the government and spending all day on Twitter. Everyone experiences burnout at the job, but that's usually after a few years of doing the same thing every day. Ocasio-Cortez hasn't even started yet.
She's become famous for these little goofy moments, so let's send her a shout-out for acknowledging that being an adult is hard and people who experience burnout at work should always take a day or week to themselves. Usually you have to start working first, but that's OK. She'll see how it is in 2019 when things get real.
Go ahead to your yoga class, because the real work starts in a few weeks and you'll see what real burnout feels like by April.
I’m taking a few days to take care of myself before what is sure to be an eventful term.— Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@Ocasio2018) December 17, 2018
For working people, immigrants, & the poor, self-care is political - not because we want it to be, but bc of the inevitable shaming of someone doing a face mask while financially stressed./1 https://t.co/EWdWFmPwet
We should all do more self-care and take a week off before our 6-figure job starts. Self-care is more important than the job. Btw, you can open a yoga studio with that salary.— Frank (@TrendingViews1) December 18, 2018
