Willie Murphy is not your average elderly. The 82-year-old Rochester native was just getting ready for bed last Thursday night. At about 11 p.m., a man suddenly knocked loudly on her door. At first, the man was asking for help, yelling "Please call an ambulance, I'm sick! I'm sick!" However, it turns out to be a ploy as Murphy called the police, choosing not to let the man in. That is when the man suddenly turned angry.
Murphy recalled "I hear a loud noise. I'm thinking, What the heck was that? The young man is in my home. He broke the door."
It was obvious that the man didn't know what he was getting into as Murphy is an award-winning bodybuilder who works out at the YMCA, and deadlifts 225 pounds. She continued to tell her story, commenting how the man picked the wrong hose to break into. As it was dark, Murphy hid as the suspect walked through her house. Then, she acted quickly and grabbed the closest thing to her, a table. "I picked up the table, and I went to work on him. The table broke. And when he's down, I'm jumping on him."
Once she confirmed that the suspect was injured, she grabbed a bottle of shampoo and proceeded to pour it on him. "I grabbed the shampoo. Guess what" He's still on the ground. In his face, all of it, the whole thing." She continued "I got the broom. He's pulling the broom. I'm hitting him with the broom."
At last, the officers arrived. The man did get what he was asking for, he was brought to the hospital. Murphy received high praises from the first responders. "The officer that came wanted to go on my from porch and take selfies with me" She was also given a hero's welcome by the gym she goes to.
Murphy hopes that her story will inspire people of all ages.
