"If the president is not good for the Republic, then maybe it is a good time to change the President," says retired Admiral William H. McRaven.
Admiral McRaven is a former commander of the United States Special Operations Command. He has a long history of service for the country, in various operations abroad from the Philippines to Iraq. He is also the person that organized the operation that led to the killing of Osama bin Laden, an infamous Saudi terrorist who was behind 9/11.
In the long article recently posted in the New York Times, McRaven expressed his concerns about the country and his disagreement with Trump and his policies. Admiral McRaven retired in 2014, but even these days he, as a well-respected person in military and intelligence circles, expresses his opinion about current affairs in the USA and the world.
He recalls how he recently participated in two military events. One of them was organized to honor the history of the US military, the other one was about passing the general's authority from one to another.
Like he wrote in the New York Times, these events made him proud of being a part of the US military, a country that stands for freedom and equality. A country, whose soldiers "believe in the American values," that are also ready to sacrifice "everything" for them.

But these events, like the Admiral wrote, had "an underlying current of frustration, humiliation, anger and fear that echoed across the sidelines," mostly because of Trump's policies and how he treats the American allies, for example the Kurds that helped to fight ISIS in Syria and Iraq.
Like the McRaven wrote, it is a sad thing to watch how all soldiers and military people loyal to the country, observe "our leaders stand beside despots and strongmen, preferring their government narrative to our own," and how the same soldiers and military men have to observe how America "abandons its allies" and "betrays" them on the battlefield. He even recalled, how, on one of the events that he participated in, he heard one US Army general expressing his disgust with Trump's policies. "I don’t like the Democrats, but Trump is destroying the Republic,” was meant to say mentioned by McRaven four-star general.
McRaven concludes that if America can't stand for its values and protect its allies, and if doesn't care for its "duty and honor," then it all means that America should be ashamed of its leaders.
He concluded his long opinion in New York Times, that " if this president doesn’t understand their [America's traditional values and qualities - red.] importance, if this president doesn’t demonstrate the leadership that America needs, both domestically and abroad, then it is time for a new person in the Oval Office — Republican, Democrat or independent — the sooner, the better. The fate of our Republic depends upon it."
