Comedian George Lopez made a joke about taking out President Donald Trump for half of the rumored $80 million, proposed by an Iranian regime, in a video that went viral on social media. The video calls for 80 million people to each give $1, then they would give $80 million for Trump's head.
George Lopez saw this being talked about on social media and he joked about it, saying "we'll do it for half."
As it may seem, anyone making similar comments might get the attention of the Secret Service who has the ability to look into these types of comments. Typically, comments like this from a celebrity are meaningless and portrayed as humor, but they also can contribute to a negative atmosphere on social media.
The Washington Times reported on George Lopez's joke and the Secret Service:
The comment prompted outrage and was eventually deleted.
“The Secret Service is aware of the tweet made by Mr. Lopez,” a USSS representative said in a statement, the Washington Examiner reported. “The Secret Service takes all threats against the president and or any of our protectees seriously, and as a matter of practice, we do not comment on matters involving protective intelligence.”
Representatives for Mr. Lopez told Fox News that the comedian’s remark was “a joke.” It was not clear whether he had yet been contacted by the Secret Service.
George Lopez's joke and rhetoric will likely be overlooked as harmless, despite it's negativity.
