A security guard fatally shot a gunman who shot and injured two people outside J&S Hookah Lounge in the Germantown area. Police Captain Drew Techner told reporters that the security guard was on duty when an armed assailant approached nearby and opened fire on a group of people outside in the street, hitting two in the legs, when he pulled his pistol and fired multiple times at the gunman, striking him down and saving possibly countless lives. The gunman's pistol was reportedly found at the scene by police.
The two people who were injured were a 25-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man whose identities have not been released as the investigation is still active. There is no motive yet known publicly for the attack and the security guard was taken to Temple University Hospital to make a positive ID on the shooter. She shooter, who remains unnamed at this time, was a 30-year-old male and he was pronounced dead approximately 15 hours after the deadly incident occurred.
The injured victims were taken to the hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds to the leg and were listed in stable condition.
Philadelphia police said that as far as the guard's actions, completely justified. He just so happened to be in the right place at the right time to be able to stop a potentially very deadly shooting spree. Police say the security guard shot the gunman multiple times in the stomach, rendering him harmless, also known as dead. They also noted that the guard is fully cooperating with the police.
Police are reportedly looking into surveillance cameras in hopes that they can bring even more detail of what happened to light.
