Shakira and Jennifer Lopez to headline Super Bowl
Performing at Super Bowl halftime show is a crown jewel in career of every music artist, and now Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will take the stage on Feb. 2 in Miami.
Jennifer Lopez hinted in July that she would love to headline the Super Bowl LIV halftime show. At the time, she told Entertainment Tonight that it would be a big deal for her, especially since the show is in Miami. But at the same time, the performer also claimed that she couldn't do anything about it, as the NFL makes the decision. Jenny from the Block was so excited once the NFL called that she posted the news on her Twitter even before it went official. She wrote that this is her biggest since watching Diana Ross performing at Super Bowl XXX. Even more special for her is that it's NFL's 100th anniversary and the fact that she will share the stage with another Latina, Shakira.
J.Lo might have been picked up because of her love for the NFL. Before the start of the season, she made a video celebrating a century of NFL. It was aired on Fox who is also airing Super Bowl LIV. Both artists spend a lot of their time in Miami, and J.Lo made a few of her popular videos there. Miami Beach even honored her on her birthday (July 24) turning it into Jennifer Lopez Day.
As for Columbian superstar Shakira, she owns a property in Miami and is spending a part of the year there. Both ladies will have a tough time trying to beat viewership record that was set by Katy Perry in 2015. 120.7 million people watched her halftime show, and only Lady Gaga came close in 2017. Still, Shakira and Jennifer Lopez do have the potential to change that.
