Stormy Daniels' defamation lawsuit against President Donald Trump has been dismissed. She was ordered to pay his legal fees.
Stormy Daniels and her attorney, Michael Avenatti, may have been shocked when a federal district court judge in California dismissed her defamation lawsuit against Donald Trump. On top of that, the judge ordered Daniels to pay for Trump's legal fees.Daniels had originally filed the lawsuit against Trump because of a tweet that he posted. His tweet was in reference to a man who allegedly threatened her to stay quiet about the alleged affair she claims to have had with Trump.
A sketch years later about a nonexistent man. A total con job, playing the Fake News Media for Fools (but they know it)! https://t.co/9Is7mHBFda— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) April 18, 2018
U.S. District Judge S. James Otero dismissed the case on the grounds that the tweet was “rhetorical hyperbole” rather than defamation and Daniels claimed.
Trump lawyer Charles Harder released a statement noting that with the lawsuit’s dismissal, the president is entitled to compensation for his legal fees.
“No amount of spin or commentary by Stormy Daniels or her lawyer, Mr. Avenatti, can truthfully characterize today’s ruling in any way other than total victory for President Trump and total defeat for Stormy Daniels,” Harder said.
Avenatti didn't seem happy about losing.
