United States President Donald Trump has approved military strikes in Syria. The strikes will target the regime of Bashar al-Assad, the Syrian President. This is in retaliation for a chemical gas attack that is suspected to have been conducted by Assad's people. The gas attack targeted a town held by rebels which is located near the capital of Syria.
Fox News reported just that Trump's announcement was preceded by explosions in Damascus. Trump also criticized Assad, stating that his actions "are not the actions of a man," but "are the crimes of a monster instead."
Fox reported more details on the U.S. military strikes on Syria:
"At least 40 people died in the attack in Douma, about 10 miles east of Damascus, and over 500 people, mostly women and children, were injured and brought to medical centers. The attack occurred amid a resumed offensive by Syrian government forces after the collapse of a truce. Syrian activists, rescuers and medics said families suffocated in their homes.
A similar chemical attack in Khan Sheikhoun in April 2017 that killed nearly 100 people prompted the U.S. to launch dozens of cruise missiles at a Syrian airfield to dissuade Assad from using chemical weapons in the future, officials said.
But during the weekend, images of dead and sick women and children again circulated following another alleged chemical attack.
In his statement, the president also hit Russia and Iran for their sustained support of the Assad regime.
"To Iran and to Russia I ask, what kind of nation wants to be associated with the mass murder of innocent men, women and children," Trump asked."
Syria doesn't have much hope for fighting back as the United States forces can easily demolish them. However, if other forces such as China and Russia get involved and support Syria, then there's a big problem at hand. There has already been some rippling drama between Trump and Russia, then China talked things up a bit. Everyone knows those three forces alone would put on a spectacular World War III, but no one really wants that.
However, all the talks of Russian collusion can go out the window now.
Trump is standing up for the people who were attacked by chemical gas and unable to protect themselves. If anyone gets in their way, then Trump will likely give Mad Dog Mattis the full power he needs to do what he's best at, and that's destroying enemies.
