Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggests that a world with defunded police would look similar to a suburb. If she's talking about lower crime rates, then that's because there's less people living in the suburbs compared to the high population numbers of an inner city. More people = more crime, in a typical city.
Suburban residents are typically employed in better paying jobs and the people who live there are less likely to commit crimes because they have less struggles. However, there are still plenty of crimes happening in suburbs, even murder, so it's irresponsible to make people think crime isn't a thing in the burbs.
AOC thinks she's making a point, but her comparison falls flat because the suburbs are by no means crime free - there's just typically less crime - but nonetheless, still very bad crimes.
