President Donald Trump wants to cut funding for Planned Parenthood, but Bernie Sanders plans to do the opposite. Sanders stated, as quoted by Tom Elliott, that "Trump and his friends want to cut funding for Planned Parenthood. We have some bad news for them because we are going to substantially increase funding for Planned Parenthood."
To satisfy some of Trump's conservative voter base, he tends to lean away from funding Planned Parenthood, particularly because of their stance on abortion.
For example, In January, Trump restored some family planning funding to Texas that excluded Planned Parenthood.
The Hill reported:
The Trump administration on Wednesday approved federal family planning funding for a Texas program that excludes providers who perform or promote abortions.
Texas lost that funding under the Obama administration, which argued the state’s exclusion of some providers violates federal law.
But the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on Wednesday approved Texas’s funding request for a state-run family planning program that excludes providers like Planned Parenthood.
On the contrary, Bernie Sanders leans the other direction, supporting women's rights which includes the freedom to have an abortion.
Also reported by The Hill, regarding Bernie Sanders stance on abortion:
“When I am in the White House, we will fight back against the Republican assault on abortion rights across this country and defend a woman’s fundamental right to control her own body,” Sanders said in a statement. “As President, there will be no doubt that in the United States of America, abortion is a constitutional right. Period.”
