Mayor Bill de Blasio claimes that there is limited protest activity in Manhattan. However, at least a few stores were looted. Perhaps there IS little protest activity and the looting is simply considered criminal activity . Fox News reported that stores such as Chanel and Dior were destroyed, with people stealing merchandise, storing them in black plastic bags, and escaping through CitiBikes.

NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea said that daytime demonstrations were peaceful. When night comes, things are different. He told the network, "Most of the day, we had large crowds throughout the city in multiple boroughs. But when it got dark, things changed, and it changed rapidly. We anticipated it, but you saw large groups of people had no inclination to all this protest once it got dark, particularly in the area of SoHo between Canal and Broadway. We had a number of stores broken into.

Nearly two dozen were destroyed.
