She's an author, former star on a reality show, and also a convicted felon and she's running for Congress against Democratic Rep. John Lewis. Her name is Angela Stanton-King and she was recently pardoned by President Trump. She'll be running as a Republican in her fight against Lewis, who is 80-years-old and battling pancreatic cancer. Lewis is a well-known civil rights leader who's held his spot for 17 terms in Georgia's 5th Congressional District.
He has no plans to leave anytime soon and even signed his name on the first day he was allowed to qualify, as per AJC.
Stanton-King was convicted back in 2004 for some federal conspiracy charges related to her role in a car theft ring.
She was in prison for over two years, but was pardoned by Trump and it's likely she had no idea the pardon was coming.
Last week, Stanton-King found herself in the Oval Office, praying over Trump. It was fitting that she was there with a handful of Trump’s black supporters, whom he is trying to build into a coalition of support leading up to the November election.
Her part will be attempting to defeat Lewis, a Trump nemesis who has repeatedly called his presidency illegitimate.
There's another person running for the same spot in Congress as well, but doesn't have quite a story like Stanton-King who went from prison inmate felon, to getting pardoned, to now running for Congress against a big-time foe of President Donald Trump.
Stanton-King and Lewis will square up against Democrat Barrington Martin.Source: ajc / Last Edited by: Frank the Tank
