ABC News posted the following on Twitter: "Growing outrage after a zoo visitor tossed a lit cigarette into an orangutan enclosure, prompting the ape to pick it up and smoke it. More than 1M people signed a petition to shut down the zoo after the incident. The zoo says it regrets that it happened."
Their official report stated: "The video was shot by a visitor Sunday at Indonesia's Bandung Zoo, which is about 90 miles southeast of the capital, Jakarta. It captured a young man taking a few puffs from a cigarette and tossing it, still lit, into an open-air enclosure.
That's when the orangutan -- a 22-year-old Bornean named Odon -- picked up the cigarette and started to inhale it, drawing laughter from onlookers."
The people who signed the petition want to close the zoo in response. So where does that leave the animals? Some zoo animals can't take care of themselves or they might be just really old. I dunno, closing the zoo over an ape who smokes a cig is probably the dumbest idea I've heard all week.
And let's point this out - that ain't his first smoke!
