President Trump announced during his now-daily coronavirus press conference that he has pushed aside mountains of regulations and years of trials to approve what is reportedly a successful treatment for coronavirus.
In announcing his decision, the president said his order "goes beyond" the "Right to Try" law that allows terminally ill Americans access to experimental drugs and treatments.
As such, the long-time anti-malaria drug Chloroquine will become available to treat U.S. COVID-19 patients after showing a lot of promise overseas. The drug showed strong promise treating coronavirus patients in China and South Korea.
"Recent guidelines from South Korea and China report that chloroquine is an effective antiviral therapeutic treatment against Coronavirus Disease 2019. Use of chloroquine (tablets) is showing favorable outcomes in humans infected with Coronavirus including faster time to recovery and shorter hospital stay," said the summary of a study examining the drug's coronavirus effectiveness presented by Dr. James M. Todaro, MD and Gregory J. Rigano, Esq.Source: flickr
